A new cybersecurity event proved it was all systems go.

The Maryland Cyber Challenge & Conference is a two-day “hackathon” and education event designed to promote the state of Maryland as the national hotbed for cybersecurity innovation. It was the brainchild of the state’s top tech agencies and corporate partners—but they needed Devaney & Associates’ branding and marketing expertise to get the first-of-its-kind event off the ground.

Devaney & Associates created an identity for the event, conceptually and visually, from the ground up.

Social media, online advertising, direct mail, and email marketing targeted students, educators, and cybersecurity professionals across the state.

Collateral made it easy for educators and corporate partners to promote the event in schools and at networking events. Sponsorship kits were used to recruit media and corporate sponsors and partners, resulting in $50,000 in free advertising.

A public relations push secured pre- and post-event coverage on major Maryland print, radio, and TV news outlets, generating more than 7.5 million media impressions.

Devaney & Associates even oversaw event design, transforming the Baltimore Convention Center into a cybersecurity hub.

The inaugural event registered more than 300 competitors and featured appearances by Governor Martin O’Malley, Maryland Senators Ben Cardin and Dutch Ruppersberger, UMBC President Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, and other state luminaries. Devaney & Associates has handled recruitment and marketing for the event every year since then.
