On This DAY in History: April 1998

Peyton Manning was the first pick of the 1998 NFL Draft. Considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, he went on to spend 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. At the age of 39, he is the oldest quarterback to start in and win a Super Bowl.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened for the first time on Earth Day of this year. Covering 580 acres, it is the largest theme park in the world.

Most importantly, Devaney & Associates landed our first relay client, Maryland Relay, establishing our standing as the premier advertising, public relations, and marketing agency for relay nationwide.

Landing Our First Relay Account

Seven years after opening our doors, in April 1998, Devaney & Associates began working with our first state relay client, Maryland Relay.

For those that don’t know, a relay service allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind or have difficulty speaking to place calls to standard telephone users via assistive telecommunications devices. As mandated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), each state must provide this public service to its residents. Offering telecommunications relay is only part of each state’s responsibility; they must also educate the public on the availability of the service, how to use it, and the types of technology offered.

Enter Devaney & Associates. We quickly became experts in relay technology and communicating with this unique audience, and today, we are currently the most experienced firm in the country in relay marketing. To date, we have worked with nearly 20 states, from Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida to California and Washington. A recognized thought leader in the industry, we’ve even spoken at multiple National Association for State Relay Administration (NASRA) conferences and Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Program Administration (TEDPA) conferences.

Why have so many states turned to us? Because we make it our mission to understand our clients’ brands, products, services, and markets better than anyone else.
